How to sync iPad messages with iPhone?

I have an iPad 3 (retina) and a iPhone 3G. Sending and receiving messages on iPhone but not on iPad how do I sync both up?

    On the iPad:

    Settings -> General -> Messages

    Make sure iMessage is on and is using the address you want (including the phone number of your iPhone) under the Send and Receive option.
