I admit I’ve been banging on about great speakers without what I think is the essential Bluetooth. At last here’s the one that fulfils all my criteria for a great sound accessory for your iPad: Sony Ericsson’s M100 series speakers are little globes of audio joy, delivering great sound quality upto 10 meters away with not a cable in sight! Three cheers for Sony…

I guess I’m a bit old-fashioned about product branding, but I do believe in the case of electronics, tried and tested household names such as Sony are likely to give you more consistent high quality for your money. My theory is certainly strengthened by the M100 speakers. These speakers are the first from Sony to give you wireless connectivity. Originally designed with cell phones in mind, they work perfectly with the iPad. Set up is easy, allowing you to switch on and listen within moments.

Sony’s M100’s use A2DP technology. This enables wireless data to be streamed to the speakers whilst retaining excellent sound reproduction with minimal interference or distortion. As portable speakers, they come complete with a carry pouch to protect them from knocks and scratches. They have quality rechargeable internal batteries that should give you up to 5 hours playback time: more than enough for a picnic in the park or a Sunday afternoon sunbathe on the beach. Like the Model T Ford, they are only available in black, and have a lovely cratered effect around the speaker, making them look as well as sound funky. A flat base prevents them from rolling away!

Not only do these speakers work with your iPad and iPhone, they are compatible with a whole host of other cell phones, including Nokia, Blackberry and Samsung to name a few. So if you’re not the proud owner of an iPhone, don’t worry, the chances are these speakers with hook into your own phone’s bluetooth.

These Sony speakers are a really good buy. At $37.99 they are cheaper than many other portable speakers that don’t have bluetooth capability. They may not be the loudest speakers on the market, but the sound reproduction is excellent, and for a quick set up for when you’re out and about, these fit the bill perfectly.
